patterns... or something like that by RBF-productions-NL patterns... or something like that by RBF-productions-NL
I usually get questions if I have patterns for the costumes I have made. The anwser to that is no. I usually draw out a rough sketch like this. I then take measurements and add them to this sketch. I then draw these out directly on the materials.
Thought I'd share that :)
All the best!!
Rick

Hey that's exactly how I do it!
Though it's quite disastrous at the moment for myself. I'm trying my hand at the green coated Assassin (I still don't know his name), but the coat is becoming quite a mess. The shoulders are far too small, but I hope to correct it.

But I digress.
The drafting technique is very handy for me, and I just modify the pattern as I go. Eventually, the measurements add up in the end, and I get a result that I'm happy with.

Cool! Its fun to hear that people across the world apply the same techniques, though not even aware of it :)

Pretty much how I draft most of my costumes (though I tend to make miniature patterns first, thus the Connor patterns on my site).

Cool that you started working on this one too, my GF is also going to make this allthough they should have released these 2 weeks ago, not 2 days before CF :p.

Good luck on this Rick, you prolly ace this one as well =).

Is it your wife that sews or do you both do it or you? Also have you ever had to remake a part because you messed up?

I sew and create everything. I mostly keep working on a part and finish it through altering it if I am not pleased with it :)

That is... interesting!  I grew up sewing and always using patterns.  Once I got into making my own stuff, I still created patterns, free hand sketching at first and then with formal pattern making classes.  That's fascinating that you just go right from a small sketch to full size, directly on the fabric.  Whatever works, right?
